"DO WE SAY BAY OF BENGAL OR BAY OF WEST BENGAL ?
IS IT ROYAL BENGAL TIGER OR ROYAL WEST BENGAL TIGER?
ARE WE BENGALIS OR WEST BENGALIS " -____ The Times Of INDIA, Kolkata, Monday , August 15, 2011; front page Ad.

Opinion :
I do say - neither of those(Ben-ingish)slangs but in another way when I speak in Mother-tongue.
Hats off to the Brain that designed such 'Draft' !
Even the word 'BENGAL' is not a Bengali -word or vocabulary but an English(Colonial ) Slang.
Rabndranath used 'Banga' or 'Bangla' and never (nowhere)-'Bengal' throughout his life.( 'Bengal' is not a word of Bengali-Language )
Even in the National Song , -there is 'Drabida, Utkala, Banga" or "Moder Garab, Moder Ashaa , Aa-mori Bangla Bhaashha**".The word ' Bengal' has not yet been, I think , included in SAMSAD ABHIDHAN .
Only Bengalis with nostalgic Colonial- genes will prefer 'Bengal' to BANGLA or BANGA.
***Spelled Phonetically
Of course , oftener, Bengalis & 'Others' fail, I think,to differentiate, phonetically, between West & Waste, while suffixing the word'Bengal' !
--------------------------------------------
Seems, - 'Anglo-indian' spirit is bent upon to reform WeSt (not waste) Bengal's 'Re-naming' process.
Now let us venture reforming songs of Rabindranath and sing :
I, 'Jana-gana...........Drabida, Utkala, 'Bengal'...and --
II. "Amar sonar 'Bengal' ami tomai bhalobasi....'
[Replacing 'Banga ' and 'Bangla' with newly proposed 'Bengal' , after the 'CHANGE'
